Family, friends, and the Springfield, Ohio, community are mourning the unexpected loss of Ryan Matthew Mullen, who passed away on July 19, 2026, at the age of 20.
Born on January 14, 2006, Ryan graduated from Catholic Central High School as a member of the Class of 2024. Shortly after graduation, he relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his lifelong dream of building a career in music. In 2024, he proudly released his first EP, a milestone that reflected his talent, determination, and passion for songwriting. For Ryan, music was more than an ambition—it was a deeply personal way of expressing himself and connecting with others.
Beyond his love of music, Ryan enjoyed staying active through fitness, exploring new restaurants, spending time with family and friends, and taking peaceful walks in nature. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and found joy in creating lasting memories with the people he loved.
Those who knew Ryan remember him as a compassionate, gentle, and selfless young man whose kindness touched everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel welcomed, appreciated, and valued, always offering encouragement, support, or a helping hand without expecting anything in return. His empathy, loyalty, and warm personality left a lasting impression on family, friends, classmates, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Ryan is survived by his loving parents, Matt and Susan Mullen; his sister, Mallory Mullen; his grandparents, Bill “Moo Moo” Groeber and Chris “Ninny” Mullen; as well as his uncles, aunts, cousin, extended family, and many cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carol “GG” Groeber and Pete “Pop” Mullen.
Family and friends will gather to honor Ryan’s life during visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 27, at Conroy Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at St. Teresa Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Catholic Central’s Ryan Mullen Music Fund, helping aspiring student musicians pursue their dreams and ensuring Ryan’s passion for music continues to inspire future generations.
Although his life was tragically cut short, Ryan Matthew Mullen leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, compassion, and hope. His music, generous spirit, and the love he shared with those around him will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ryan Matthew Mullen will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. May he rest in eternal peace.
